Exhaustion should be my middle name! Really, I am tired today. I stayed up late watching all that election coverage and was in the headquarters for most of the day as well. It is over though and we now have a Liberal government in the province of New Brunswick. I am sure we will experience many new and innovative ideas. I look forward to the changes that I am sure will come. Congratulations to all those candidates that put their name forward. I have great respect for you all. A few of us in community got together and quickly put together a leaflet to distribute in the Olde North End and Crescent Valley in hopes of getting more people out to the polls. We will have to wait and see how that affected the poll numbers.
Last week I also got the chance to meet and chat with Scott Brison who is one of the Federal Liberal Leadership Contestants. It was an interesting conversation and I was very impressed with his views on Community and especially Mental Health Issues and Poverty.
I have not wrote in my blog for the past couple of weeks because things were just too busy between work and working on the election. Due to all that work I do not have a whole lot of activities to write about. I have spent much of my days learning about all the different organizations in the City. I figure you may as well understand how everything is connected if you are going to be working in the midst of it all. I have met with Family and Community Services, the Department of Post-Secondary
Education and Training, the Saint John Learning Exchange, Housing Alternatives and Councilor Peter McGuire over the past couple of weeks. I am learning a lot!I completed and passed in my first Management course assignment which took a lot of time but got it back today and did very well so it was worth the time and effort. This past weekend I was also on call for the weekend with Victim Services but it was quiet which, as I always say, was good. One of the many Board Meetings I had last week was with P.R.O. Kids. I want to make everyone aware of a paint can fundraiser we are doing on September 30th. You can bring all your used paint cans to local Fire Departments in the morning and dispose of them for $2 each with the proceeds going to P.R.O. Kids. What a great way to get rid of your junk and help a charity at the same time.
I am hoping to get away to P.E.I. soon but with all these meetings I am not sure when that is going to happen. Hopefully soon! Before I stop typing, I also want to make you aware of an event going on tomorrow. There will be a day long session (9:00-4:30) at the Glenn Carpenter Centre around Domestic Violence. It will be attended by many organizations in the community that are attempting to put together an action plan for the local Domestic Violence Community Action Group. Feel free to join us!
