You will have to excuse the title but I have been waiting for the first day of school for some time. No, I do not have any children, but I do have a partner who is a school teacher and it makes me a little jealous seeing him off work all summer. Don't get me wrong, he does a lot of work around the yard and house but that also means he can get into a lot of trouble with projects that get out of hand. Ambition can sometimes be a bad thing!
Well the last week has been absolutely crazy! I had to do several large projects around the house, get me tenants moved in for the Community College year, help with some election planning and do the first assignment for my management course. This was, of course, on top of all the other little things (like a full time job) that go on regardless of what else is happening.
The projects around the house included installing more lighting in the back gardens and shoveling four tonnes of quarter minus into the dog kennel. We are going put down concrete pavers so that poor Bradford doesn't get as dirty in the kennel and so it is easier to clean out all his by-products. It was a lot of work and my back is feeling it. I also harvested a lot more vegetables from the garden and starting to cut them up and freeze them for the winter as we are getting a bit over stocked. The other large project involved building a six foot
lighthouse with a real light for the center of the back garden. It was my first time (and probably last time) building a lighthouse and it was pretty easy but I decided to get fancy and cover it with cedar shingles to match the house. Well, you try cedar shingling an octagonal shaped building and tell me how you get along. We rent to some rooms to Community College students and two of the four moved in this weekend with the other two coming soon. They seem like level headed kids (they are kids) so I am sure everything will work out. It has in the past so I have no reasons to be worried this year. Plus it is great extra income!
On Labour Day I decided to do the first assignment of the management course I am taking, after all, it was raining. Well it took 9 hours and it is still only the first draft. I guess I have been out of University too long. There are 6 more assignments, a term paper, final exam and some in-person sessions. Plus I will be starting up with French class again soon. I may as well just go back to school!! Oh well, I will get used to it and my partner has begun his Masters as well so I am not the only one suffering.
I got for my monthly massage today so that was very relaxing but then I mowed the lawn this evening so that ended that pretty quickly. Anyway, I have just spent the last hour doing some data entry for a provincial election candidate. My eyes are going to give out soon if I keep staring at this computer monitor so I should get off to bed.
Tomorrow night I will be attempting to rejuvenate FUSION Saint John Inc.'s Social Activism Committee. We will be meeting at St. Joseph's Community Health Centre (116 Coburg Street) at 7 P.M. Please come out and join us!!
