Decision made....

Hi Everyone,

I have finally made up my mind about running in the upcoming Municipal Election in Saint John. I thought I better announce this sooner rather than later as I have been getting a lot of questions, emails, calls, etc. I have decided not to run for a variety of reasons. I will elaborate on those reasons below. This was a difficult decision as I feel that I would have really had an opportunity to win a seat this time around given who is and isn't running and my consistent gains in votes over the past two Municipal Elections, but the timing is just not right.

I am currently still enrolled in a Masters in Public Administration Program and have a few courses left to finish, am doing a pilot's license, have a Little that I enjoy spending time with, have a wonderful partner that already puts up with my other political adventures, have a full-time job, sit on several Boards in the City which I am committed to, etc. The list could go on, but the point is that I am too busy and I have always told people that if I commit to something then I will ensure that I give it the time it deserves and I do not think I could do that now with Common Council and still fulfill my other commitments.

With that said, Saint John, perhaps now more than ever, requires some strong leadership and I am pleased by some of the names I see coming forward. I admire anyone who puts their name forward for public service because it is never an easy task and does require some sacrifices. It is also costly at the Municipal level. I wish all these candidates the best in their endeavours. At this point, I should also tell you all that I will not be helping with any campaign as I don't have the time.

I will continue to serve my community as I always have. I have always been involved with groups in SJ because I think it is the right thing to do, it was never for, or ever will be for, political aspirations. I have always been committed to marginalized groups in our community/world and, to be honest, was one of the reasons I wished to be in a leadership position, to show that anyone can do it. I think I have made my mark in other ways and will continue to do so.

So, go out there and vote and elect some people that can move our City forward and solve some of the pressing issues we face. Use your democratic voice to help move Saint John forward. I will be watching from the sidelines with keen interest.

Thanks to all of you who have supported my past two campaigns. I could not have done it without your support!

Thanks,

Danny Jardine
